I have read where other people were interested in the Moto Guzzi aero engine, so I thought I’d share the information that is on the flyer I received from D & D Sport Aviation Supply, Inc. (130 Ebenezer Dr., Newnan, GA, 30265). There are two versions of the Guzzi engine, a 750cc and a 1100cc. Both are 90 degree "V2" engines. The cylinders are on opposite sides, unlike the 45 degree, inline V twins made by Harley Davidson. These engines have been used in surveillance drones for several years. The warranty on these engines is for 100 hours of operation, regardless of calendar time. Each engine has dual carbs, electric start, alternator and a 2.7:1 belt reduction drive. Both have dual ignition and a muffler as standard equipment. The 750cc engine weighs 119 pounds (54kg.), burns 2.6 GPH, and produces 60HP at 6500 Rpm. Cruise is 5200 Rpm and produces 50HP (I’m sure this is where you would get 2.6 GPH). The 750cc engine sells for $6200US, but is available at an introductory price of $5500US. The 1100cc engine weighs 156.2 pounds and produces 83 HP at 6000 Rpm, cruises at 5200 Rpm and 66 HP, burns 3.1 GPH, and sells for $8800US. The introductory price is $8100US. D&D are currently building a Z-Max airframe that they intend to use as a demonstrator for the 750cc engine. I have an 850cc Moto Guzzi motorcycle that is very smooth and dependable. I believe that this engine will be very successful as an aircraft engine. However, these engines are a bit too expensive for me. I plan to try to convert a motorcycle engine to power my next project.
